Units

From grain to bottle, every stage of production at HDL is designed to the highest standards of quality, precision, and sustainability — right here in Nepal.

Bottling Facilities

Where craftsmanship meets consistency. Our bottling unit ensures every product is securely filled, sealed, and packaged with strict quality control, preserving integrity from production line to consumer.

Liquor Bottling Unit

HDL's primary bottling facility is located at its factory in Birgunj, Parsa — the commercial heart of southern Nepal. All products are manufactured under the direct supervision of Excise Officers of the Government of Nepal, ensuring full regulatory compliance at every step.

The company operates its own team of quality control officers who rigorously test all quality parameters before any goods are dispatched to the market. This dual-layer oversight — both regulatory and internal — is fundamental to HDL's reputation for consistency and safety.

The facility has the capacity to bottle more than 7 million litres of alcohol per year. HDL's portfolio spans the 40 UP segment, featuring the flagship Oak family — Golden Oak, Black Oak, and Silver Oak — alongside the recently launched Shlok Himalayan Premium Whisky, a premium 25 UP expression introduced in 2025 that marks HDL's entry into the ultra-premium domestic category.

RTD Bottling Unit

RTD Bottling Unit

HDL has recently commissioned a dedicated Ready-to-Drink (RTD) bottling line within its factory premises, with an annual production capacity of approximately 400 KL. The facility uses modern filling and sealing technology that maintains the integrity of carbonated and blended RTD formats.

As a first mover in Nepal's RTD category, HDL introduced the country's alcohol-strength RTD beverages at 5% v/v — a format well established in international markets but nascent in Nepal. HDL's flagship RTD product, Passion Cooler (Cola), pioneered this space domestically.

While the RTD segment remains a niche in Nepal today, HDL's early investment positions the company to capture significant market share as consumer preferences evolve. The company is actively developing additional RTD offerings for launch in the upcoming fiscal year.

Distillation Units

Grain ENA Distillation

HDL is among a select few liquor manufacturers in Nepal that operates both a bottling facility and a state-of-the-art distillation plant — a combination that provides complete vertical integration of its supply chain. The 30 KLPD distillation unit was designed by KATZEN International (USA), one of the world's leading engineering firms in fermentation and distillation technology, and has an annual production capacity of more than 7 million litres of Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA).

The production process begins with the careful storage and pre-cleaning of grains, followed by quality testing before milling. The flour is then liquefied, converted into fermentable sugars, and fermented to produce the base wash from which ENA is extracted through a series of distillation columns.

Quality control is embedded at every stage of the distillation process, with sample testing conducted throughout the production run. HDL's modern, fully equipped central laboratory serves as the quality assurance hub for the entire facility.

In recent years, HDL has made substantial investments in plant automation. The transition to automated controls reduces manual intervention, delivering ENA with greater consistency in strength and purity — qualities that directly benefit the downstream bottling operation and the final products that reach consumers.

Malt Spirit Distillation Unit

HDL has commissioned a purpose-built malt spirit distillation plant — one of the few of its kind in Nepal — representing a landmark investment in premium spirits production. The facility is engineered for top-tier performance, prioritising purity, eco-efficiency, and the nuanced character that defines world-class malt spirits.

This development marks a pivotal step in HDL's strategy to blend modern engineering with traditional artisan methods in the craft of malt distillation. Operational since 2024 and expanded with six new fermentation vessels in 2025, the plant has an annual production capacity of more than 200 KL of malt spirit.

Facility Highlights

Mashing & Lautering

A high-capacity mash tun with precise thermal management promotes ideal starch conversion. Paired with a sophisticated lauter tun, it ensures pristine wort separation — the critical foundation for exceptional fermentation.

Fermentation Vessels

Premium stainless-steel fermentation vessels maintain uniform conditions with automated climate controls and advanced oxygen management, supporting vigorous yeast activity and cultivating nuanced flavour profiles.

Copper Pot Stills

Bespoke copper pot stills for both wash and spirit distillation maximise copper interaction and reflux, yielding malt spirits of exceptional depth and complexity, with tuned column configurations for distillation flexibility.

Sustainable Energy

The facility integrates vapour recapture systems and thermal heat exchange technology to minimise energy consumption and environmental footprint without compromise on output quality.

Digital Process Control

An advanced digital oversight platform enables real-time monitoring of all critical production parameters, ensuring consistent and repeatable results across every batch.

On-Site Quality Laboratory

A dedicated analytical laboratory continuously monitors production across all stages, upholding the stringent quality benchmarks required of premium malt spirits destined for long-term maturation.

Spirit Maturation Center

Spirit Maturation Warehouse

Aged spirit lies at the heart of the world's finest whiskies, shaping the depth, complexity, and character that define exceptional quality. Recognising the importance of this critical stage, HDL has made a landmark investment in establishing Nepal's dedicated Spirit Maturation Centre, reinforcing its commitment to producing world-class spirits from grain to glass.

At the centre, carefully distilled malt spirits are matured in premium oak barrels for a minimum of three years, allowing time to naturally develop the rich aromas, refined flavours, and smooth character that distinguish premium aged spirits.

To create the ideal maturation environment, HDL established a purpose-built maturation warehouse in the Solukhumbu District of the Himalayas. Selected for its cool temperatures, pristine mountain air, and unique high-altitude climate, the location provides exceptional natural conditions for the gradual and consistent aging of spirits. The first casks entered maturation in April 2026, marking a significant milestone in HDL's journey toward crafting internationally competitive whiskies

The Solukhumbu location does more than offer ideal maturation conditions — it provides HDL with a compelling and authentic origin story for its aged spirits. The Himalayan provenance of these casks aligns deeply with the brand's identity and opens doors to premium domestic and international positioning.

Looking ahead, HDL intends to capitalise on its aged spirit inventory by offering it in both domestic and export markets, creating meaningful new revenue streams and establishing a stronger international presence. This integrated approach embodies HDL's commitment to sustainable, long-term value creation in Nepal's spirits industry.
